Drunk driving is a main cause of fatal car accidents

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2018 | Car Accidents

Unfortunately, driving while under the influence of alcohol continues to be a very real problem across the state of Kentucky. Its common knowledge that driving while intoxicated is one of the most dangerous things a person can do and will almost certainly lead to car accidents. Despite this, thousands of people will choose to drive drunk. Those who get behind the wheel while intoxicated endanger the lives of all those around them.

A recent accident in South Williamson left one driver dead and another facing very serious charges. The accident happened during the evening hours along U.S. 119. According to reports, a northbound vehicle crossed the median of the highway into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle.

Tragically, the driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities say. Reportedly, two other occupants of the vehicle were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the first car received non life-threatening injuries. Police say the driver of the first car was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, among other charges.

Sadly, thousands of people across the country are injured or killed every year due to drunk drivers. Recent statistics say that car accidents involving intoxicated drivers account for nearly one third of all traffic related deaths in the United States. Families in Kentucky who have suffered the loss of a loved one in a drunk driving accident could benefit from discussions with an experienced legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed compensation to help with end-of-life expenses and other monetary losses.
