Nursing home abuse allegedly leads to man’s death

As loved ones age, they become less independent and may be unable to take care of themselves. Families may not feel comfortable letting elderly loved ones live alone. Luckily, the state of Kentucky is home to wonderful long-term care nursing facilities that care for loved ones who are not able to live alone. These helpful facilities provide safety and a sense of belonging to patients. Unfortunately, the staff at nursing homes do not always have the best interest of the patient in mind, leading to more and more cases of nursing home abuse.

A widow in another state filed a lawsuit over allegations that her late husband suffered negligent care at a nursing facility. According to the lawsuit, her husband was a patient in the facility for only five days, but his family discovered he had a large bruise on his head. Allegedly, the man was taken to a hospital to be checked out, and there it was discovered he also had a fractured leg.

The lawsuit also claims the man was malnourished and dehydrated. Tragically, the man died only a couple of months later, the plaintiffs allege. The lawsuit claims negligent care at the nursing facility caused the man to fall and become malnourished, ultimately leading to his death.

Every year, nearly five million senior citizens are abused in nursing homes around the country. Families in Kentucky who have been affected by nursing home abuse could benefit from discussions with an experienced and knowledgeable attorney. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in financial relief to help struggling families recover any monetary losses that may have occurred as a result of this tragedy.
